What is the EFR – Shell Research Project?
During this 8 week course supported by Dr. M.B.J. Schauten (Assistant Professor of Finance) you will do research on the subject of Finance off-shoring and present your findings to Shell executives. The research will be done in groups of 4, with each group having 1 Shell mentor. He/she is there to support you via email or other media every day of the week. The Kick-Off will be at Shell’s Headquarters in The Hague and the final presentations will be held at Shell’s HQ of Projects & Technology in Rijswijk, both with a drink afterwards!

What is the time frame?

Dr. Marc Schauten
Marc Schauten
(1966) is an Assistant Professor in Finance at the Erasmus
School of Economics of the Erasmus University Rotterdam and lecturer at the Mondriaan Onderwijsgroep in Delft (former Tinbergen Economie). Previously he held several positions in education and business. He was the Director of the Erasmus Center for Financial Training (www.ECFT.nl) from 1998-2004, and business analyst for De Nationale Investeringsbank N.V. in The Hague. Marc Schauten is a popular lecturer at the EUR and is often invited as a lecturer for courses in Corporate Finance. Marc Schauten holds a Ph.D. in Financial Economics from the Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Piet is the Business Finance Manager of Shell Global Solutions
Upstream Gas business in Projects &Technology (P&T), In this role he leads a team of financial analysts and provides financial governance support to a few joint ventures.
Piet is based in The Netherlands and has studied Controlling and Accounting. During his 31 years in Shell, Piet has worked in more than 10 different Finance in the Business and Controlling roles in Downstream, Trading, Upstream and Corporate both in The Netherlands and abroad. Piet is married with Helma and has 1 daughter and 1 son. In his free time he likes to play tennis, skiing and cycling.
Sibert Houben
Sibert is the Busine
ss Finance Manager of 2 global business units in Shell: Global Solutions Upstream, which provides technology solutions and the New Business Development unit which aim is to grow and reshape the portfolio. In this role he leads a team of 20 analysts.
Sibert is based The Netherlands. He has studied Business Economics at the Erasmus University and is a Charter Controller (Nyenrode University). Prior to this assignment, Sibert spend almost 6 years in Russia, first as the Budget Manager, then as Project Controller at Sakhalin Energy and thereafter as Finance Manager - Operated Ventures in Moscow. Sibert has led various teams and has always enjoyed the many opportunities he had to coach and mentor a very diverse group of people. Sibert is married with Susan. In Russia he loved to take his dog out for ski- and mountain bike tours, back in The Netherlands most free time is spend on renovating their 19th century town house.
Jeroen Perquin
Jeroen is th
e Business Finance Manager of Global Solutions Downstream in P&T, based at the Shell Technology Center in Amsterdam. Jeroen has studied Business Economics at the Erasmus University, Register Controller (RC) at the VU in Amsterdam and is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).Jeroen has worked for 6 years at KPN and 13 years in Shell in a wide variety of Finance jobs in The Hague, Amsterdam and London, including Treasury, Investor Relations and Internal Audit; working in management positions, leading global finance teams in Shell.
Since 3 years he is one of the Finance Managers working for P&T, and has been very much part of the finance off shoring journey that Shell is on. He very much looks forward to share his personal experiences, coach and mentor a group of students in this exciting Research Project on this topic.
Duncan Ashurst
Duncan is the Finance Change Manager for Shell Proje
cts and Technology. In this role he has led the migration efforts into shared service centres (Chennai and Manila) with activities ranging from transaction accounting (payables/ receivables), general ledger & period-end closing, statutory reporting, management information reporting & analysis.
Duncan is based in the UK and has held a variety of finance management roles in a career spanning more than 30 years including international assignments in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the Netherlands. Duncan is a UK Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) and is married to Joanne and has two sons. In his free time Duncan enjoys playing golf and guitar.
